WALTER KNOLL AT IMM COLOGNE

Seven days of furnishing inspiration. All the latest designs were on show at imm cologne from 18 to 24 January 2016. More than 1,100 exhibitors from 50 countries, over 120,000 visitors: the International Furniture Fair attracted the design world to the city on the Rhine and underlined its position as an important business platform in the industry.

“For connoisseurs. Since 1865.”: The Walter Knoll presentation takes a fond look back at the past. Rediscovered classics of mid-century modernity are new additions to the “Classic Edition” of the prestigious company. A tribute to craftsmanship and material: the new sofa and new armchair in the Isanka range. The collection is extended by innovative chairs and tables for elegant dining.

Once again, the Walter Knoll stand was created in collaboration with the Identity Architects Ippolito Fleitz Group, a company proud of its latest accolade: Ippolito Fleitz is the very first German interior design company to be included in the “Interior Design Hall of Fame” of the renowned US magazine – the Oscar of the interior design world. Thus, the studio joins the list of great designers such as Warren Plattner, Patricia Urquiola or Shigeru Ban. The award was presented in New York on 2 December 2015.

The Fishnet Chair was first designed in 1959 by Sadi & Neptun Ozis using the limited materials available after the Second World War. Originally formed by weaving fishnet between a bent tubular steel framework, Ozis created a piece of timeless character and craftsmanship. Now reappearing 50 years later, the Fishnet Chair has lost none of its iconic charm. Today, the Fishnet Chair is crafted using steel and upholstered fabric to combine both clean lines and soft arches. The frame is available in either chrome plated or powder coated matte black.

RUMI CHAIR designed by Sadi Ozis in 1961
Inspired by a dancing devrish, the Rumi Chair builds upon simple geometric shapes to appear effortlessly lightweight. Made from a moulded foam body, steel frame and upholstered fabric, Ozis has incorporated both gentle curves and angular lines to give the impression of weightlessness. The Rumi Chair is available with either a chrome plated or powder coated matte black base.

374 LOUNGE CHAIR designed by Walter Knoll Team
The new elegance. The designers had presumably imagined a shared aperitif or a conversation in the salon when they came up with this small armchair in 1957. The Lady’s Chair 375 has a light-footed and charming air. It’s not a chair for lolling around, but taking a seat. And the slightly larger easy chair 376 is also reminiscent of familiar social rituals. A genuine Gentleman’s Chair, particularly supple and comfortable.

ISANKA CHAIR designed by EOOS
Distinctive character. Isanka Chair is an invitation you cannot decline. The armchair stands for the values of the Isanka family appreciated by connoisseurs all over the world: a tribute to craftsmanship and material. ISANKA SOFA designed by EOOS
When design tells stories, we love to listen. Isanka tells of the art of craftsmanship: expertise, creativity, attention to detail. The spacious sofa represents the depth of culture at Walter Knoll: 150 years of expertise in leather, excellent craftsmanship, timeless appeal. Exquisite saddle leather shapes the back. Precisely finished edges and exact seams determine the shape. The high back flows into the gently sloping armrests. With large, soft cushions in front – they enhance the upholstery and ensure comfort. Isanka keeps the secrets of the traditions of craftsmanship and special materials. For a culture of mindfulness.

FOSTER 525 LOUNGE CHAIR designed by Foster + Partners
Unpretentious elegance and a serenity so familiar of classic pieces – this is the character mix of Foster 525. Searching for an armchair at the table, the designers at Foster + Partners came up with the comfortable dining chair: for their acclaimed international projects from dining to conference, from bar to bureau. Perfect proportions are a welcome invitation in every direction. The elegant upholstered blades add a lightweight touch to the room.

375 TABLE designed by Walter Knoll Team
Interaction of the materials: the occasional tables perfectly show off the elegance of the 375 range. High-grade marble or onyx marble feature on the table tops, the legs are made of solid wood. A must for the new salon culture as well as for comfort at home.

LIZ WOOD CHAIR designed by Claudio Bellini
Lightness with maximum comfort. Liz Wood unites the best of naturalness and opulence. Elegant solid wood legs carry the soft upholstery. Drawn-in precisely to structure the spacious upholstery on seat and backrest. The fine seam patterns, the authenticity of the wood, the exceptional comfort – these are the hallmarks of lasting design.

SADDLE CHAIR designed by EOOS
An example of precise craftsmanship, classically austere but at the same time exceptionally comfortable – the Saddle Chair by EOOS. Once designed as Coco Chair for Italian manufacturer Matteo Grassi, Walter Knoll is reissuing the legendary chair made of saddle leather. With improved seating comfort and new dimensions and proportions. A continuous leather robe envelops the frame. Precise seams define the shape. The outstanding seating pleasure is the result of taut belts in the seat. Just as desirable now as it was on its début thirteen years ago.

ANDOO TABLE designed by EOOS
Archetype for aesthetes: the elegance of fine coordinated details is the message of the solid wood table Andoo. Reduced volumes interact with a minimalist aesthetic philosophy and at the same time convey timeless stability. Precise, linear edges meet bevelled expanses. The result: an ingenious act of angles and light. The table can be extended to accommodate more people. Just slide out the table tops, and then fold the leaf up and out. The leaves close softly and gently.
