DEN FAIR HIGHLIGHTS ’16

We were highly impressed with the level of beautifully curated design on display at this years’ Den fair at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition centre. In particular the calibre of local design was strong, with the likes of Adam Goodrum, Trent Jansen, Coco Flip, Didier, Nathan Day, Armadillo & Co and Jack Flanagan all on ground.

We would like to extend congratulations to our design partners:

Adam Goodrum for winning “Best Australian Designer”

Jack Flanagan on receiving runner up for “Best Australian Designer”

Grain stool on receiving runner-up for “Best Product”

Armadillo & Co for “Best Textile”

Here’s some of the highlights:

BOWER BY ADAM GOODRUM x CULT

AG_Bower_workpod (4)
New in 2016 is the ‘Bower’ range, Goodrum’s first collection for the commercial market that includes a workpod, armchair, meeting lounge and a range of adjustable acoustic screens. With ‘Bower’ Goodrum sought to break away from the rigidity often associated with office and breakout furniture. Inspired by the rambling-style nests created by the bowerbird, the ‘Bower’ range is open, organic and gentle, bringing a natural and calm aesthetic to workplaces. The vertical woven elements of ‘Bower’ appear to be growing like vines. The architecture of this design also controls acoustics as the undulating shapes catch and absorb noise. ‘Bower’ Armchair and Meeting Lounge also come with integrated high back for visual and acoustic privacy. Entirely modular, the ‘Bower’ range is designed for ease of assembling on-site in work places, taking into account weight restrictions and lift dimensions.

Just launched, Bower has already won the International Good Design Award for 2016.

Designed in response to the blurring lines between home and work, the AG x Cult 2016 Collection presents a democratic range of furniture and lighting that exudes an organic and relaxed warmth. Suitable for residential and commercial spaces, the collection includes new product families that are honest in practicality and rich in simplicity. Existing designs have also been reimagined, using new materials and finishes. The Molloy and Nest ranges now feature Aluminum – a versatile material with great modularity. From elegant lounge furniture to modular shelving with endless possibility, the 2016 collection is reductive in form, honest in materiality and timeless in style.

Australian design darlings Coco Flip have just released a beautiful new series of lighting designs called “Mayu“. In true Coco Flip fashion the series takes cues from traditional forms whilst imparting us with an inimitable personality (see the Coco pendant & Puku ottoman). Inspired by the beauty of Iceland’s otherworldly landscapes, Mayu attempts captures this sense of serenity and allure. With a perfectly diffused, welcoming glow and simplistic form, Mayu makes an atmospheric addition from cosy lounges to lofty stairwells.

TAIT_Tidal sun lounger
Beckoning the summer months to arrive, Tait’s latest product launch is the supremely sexy Sunlounge as part of Trent Jansen’s Tidal collection. Making its debut at DEN Fair 2016, its unique design has been inspired by Australia’s coast, informed by wave formations; both structurally and decoratively. The ripple design incorporates a stainless steel wire frame. Every detail of this product is considered, high performance and above all flawlessly suited for A Life Outside.

TREKU KAI SHELVING

TREKU_Kai shelving
Treku have worked with the prestigious French designer Jean Louis Iratzoki to create a system that is characterised by a harmonious blend of solid wood and different materials such as coloured lacquer, felt and even marble. A combination of fine, high-quality materials with a range of fresher, more modern elements fuse beautifully in this design. The personality of each individual piece will depend on the elements used to create it, with a wide range of styles available, from the more open to the more functional, and from the more colourful to the more sober and restrained.

GRAIN STOOL BY JACK FLANAGAN & CALLUM CAMPBELL x CULT

Grain stool 5

Introducing the Grain Stool, the distillation of two years of development and refinement with Australian designers Jack Flanagan and Callum Campbell. Constructed from solid recyclable aluminum, the dramatically thin seat and footrest are extremely light weight and hardwearing. Strong and beautiful, the solid timber legs balance and unify the stool’s aesthetic composition. The coherence of these finely tuned components instill a sense of quality and refined sophistication upon the stool. The Grain Stool is available in three different heights, with either a polished aluminum seat and footrest, or with a matte white or black powdercoat.
